Franklin, NC -Robert Cabe, age 82, of Franklin, NC passed away Monday, August 27, 2012. Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Harley and Ida Elliott Cabe. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was a carpenter and liked to hunt, fish, and garden and loved being outdoors. He was a member of Mashburn Branch Baptist Church and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Mr. Cabe is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nell Gibson Cabe; one daughter, Shirlene Spradlin and husband Melvin of Franklin, NC; two sisters, Margie Lee Hooper of Franklin, NC and Dora Lee Garrett of Raleigh, NC; one brother, Wiley Cabe of Franklin, NC; three grandchildren, Amanda McMahan and husband Robert, Jody Spradlin and LeeAnn Higdon and husband Brandon; and six great grandchildren, Zachary, Austin, Blake, Brandon and Kaylyn McMahan and Mia Higdon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Roy, Albert, Carl and Luther Cabe and a grandson, Kevin Eugene Spradlin.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 31, 2012 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Bryant Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Alton Dendy and Rev. Ben Cabe officiating. Burial will be in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clyde McCall, Billy Hurst, Tom Riles, Earl Holland, Danny Hooper, Jay Hooper, Ronnie Hooper and Isaac Gibson. Carl Angel will serve as honorary pallbearer.
The family will receive friends, Friday from 10:00 - 11:00 am, one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 514 Daniels Street #109, Raleigh, NC 27605.
