Robert C.Calloway

Highlands, NC -Robert C.Calloway, age 78, of Highlands, NC passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at a Highlands-Cashiers Hospital. He was a native of Macon County, the son of the late Ira and Hazel Speed Calloway. He was a retired building contractor and a US Army Veteran of the Korean War. He loved to coon hunt and loved raising coon dogs. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and was a member of Buck Creek Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Alene Houston Calloway; one son, Mark Calloway of Highlands, NC; two sisters, Lois Bolick of Highlands, NC and Lily Rhodes of Franklin, NC; one grandchild, Callee Bowman, two great-grandchildren, Tucker and Tootsie Bowman all of Franklin, NC. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan (Suzy) Alene Calloway, who passed away in 2004, and preceded in death by two sisters.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Buck Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. Rick Harrell and Rev. Alton Dendy officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clayton Vaughn, Michael Houston, Glandon Vaughn, Algie Bolick, Tony Corbin and Paul Corbin. The Franklin VFW Post #7339 and American Legion Post #108 will conduct complete military graveside rites. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Church.
