Highlands, NC - Roland Ernest Galam, age 92, of Buckberry Rd., Highlands, NC passed away Thursday, June 16, 2011 at his residence. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Josef and Bertha Kohler Galam. He was a veteran of the USN, joining the "Seabees" during WWII and serving from 1943-1945 after which he worked for the Navy Dept. as a civilian employee, retiring after 20 years. He was employed by Chris Craft Corporation as foreman of their yacht building division where he retired with 20 years service. Roland was a member of Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church where he was an usher for 20 years. He enjoyed making furniture items for his wife.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Claire Mary Bacon Galam and one daughter, Valerie Cousino of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church with Father Dean Cesa officiating. The family will receive friends, Friday, June 17 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home in Highlands. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Four Seasons Hospice, 571 South Allen Rd., Flat Rock, NC 28731.
