Roy Wayne Ramsey

Franklin, NC - Roy Wayne Ramsey, who would have been 89 on April 2nd, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 in a local hospital. Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Clara Hyatt Ramsey. He was a US Marine veteran of World War II. He was retired from Burlington Industries, and became an avid rock hunter along with being a musician for many years. He was a member of Cowee Baptist Church. He came from humble beginnings but gave to his country thru service, charitable contributions, time and love. He will be missed.

Mr. Ramsey is survived by his wife of 68 years, Irene Ramsey; one daughter, Brenda Perry Moore of Franklin; two sons, Michael Ramsey and wife Janice of Franklin and Ben Ramsey and wife Cheryl of Preston, ID; one brother, Paul Justice and wife Violet of Centralia, WA; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Larry Ramsey, a sister, Lucille Cope and two brothers, Woodrow and Mickey Justice.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Cowee Baptist Church with Rev. David Powell, Rev. Lloyd Fish and Rev. Ronnie Branson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Franklin VFW Post #7339 and American Legion Post #108 will perform full military graveside rites. Pallbearers will be Charles Cabe, Rick Tallent, David Morgan, Benny Reynolds, Richard Burnette and Ron Gentry. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Clark, Carol Tallent, Bill Fouts, Roy Jones, Robert Bennett, Paul Shuler, John Gallant, Jim Brown, Rob Bradley and Bruce Harwood. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 8:00 pm at Bryant Grant Funeral Home.
