Highlands, N.C. - Ruth Virginia Nausbaum, age 92, of Mayflower Drive, Highlands, NC, passed away Monday, May 5, 2008 at Highlands-Cashiers Hospital after a short illness. She was a native of Lakewood, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, and the daughter of Harriett and Gustav Braun.
She was a neighbor, playmate and schoolmate of John Otto Nausbaum, whom she married in 1937. They were married for 71 years. During World War II, when Otto was in Europe, Ruth worked as a lathe operator making valves for war aircraft engines. She later became a sterling silver buyer for an exclusive gift shop in Cleveland. After retiring, she was a homemaker an exclusive gift shop in Cleveland. After retiring, she was a homemaker and dog handler in addition to gardener in the many homes she and Otto built, including two in central Mexico. She was also a very talented artist.
Ruth is survived by her husband John Otto Nausbaum, a niece from Tennessee, a niece and nephew from Ohio, and her extended family at Chestnut Hill of Highlands.
A memorial service will be held later at Chestnut Hill. Memorials can be made to the Chestnut Hill Remembrance Fund, PO Box 40, Highlands, NC 28741.
