Ruth (Lequire) Wooten

Ruth Lequire Wooten, 90, of Franklin, passed away March 2, 2022.  Born in Swain County and later relocating to Franklin due to the construction of Fontana Dam, she was the daughter of the late William Henderson Lequire and Martha Emaline Taylor Lequire.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Rev. William (Bill) Wooten, three brothers; Harley, Carl and Hansel Lequire, four sisters; Polly Mae Cook, Della Cook, Beulah Cunningham and Annie Rogers.

She enjoyed sewing, doing ceramics with her sisters and friends and being with the many church families she was blessed to be part of.  One of her favorite things to do was camp and picnic in Cades Cove where her father was born and lived until the government bought the land.  She was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Pressley (Ray), of Cullowhee and Aileen Holland (Glenn) of Franklin; one son Larry Wooten (Heather) of Ellijay, Georgia.  Four grandchildren, Darren Pressley (Janie), Brandon Pressley (Chelsea), Rodney Holland (Jennifer) and Natasha Reitmeier (Tod).  Two step-grandchildren, Brianna and Thomas Stewart.  Five great-grandchildren, Mallory, Hunter, Sawyer, Finleigh and Jace.  One sister, Rozelle Angel (Bobby), one brother, Franklin Lequire (Margie) and numerous nieces and nephews.

She will lie in state Friday, March 4th, from 8am-12pm at Bryant Grant Funeral Home Chapel.  A funeral service will be held Friday, March 4th at 2pm at Ridgecrest Baptist Church with Rev. Guy Duvall and Rev. Eddie Stillwell officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons.

The family would like to say a very special “Thank You” to Ruth’s CNA Cassie Tallent.  Also, to the team at Four Seasons, Liane, Taylor, Donnie, Laura, and Dr. Hinton who showed her love and support, along with blessing her with music and fellowship.  A thank you to Dr. Patti Wheeler and Dr. William Wharton as well.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ridgecrest Cemetery Fund 206 Ridgecrest Baptist Church Road, Franklin, NC 28734 or a charity of your choice.
