Sherman Bill Gregory

Sherman Bill Gregory, 90, of Franklin, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024. Bill was born in the Nantahala community of Macon County on May 14, 1934, to the late Sherman and Annie (Hardin) Gregory. At 18, Bill joined the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War. After the war, Bill began a career at General Motors in Pontiac, Michigan, where he would work for over 20 years. On December 6, 1959, he married Betty Smith. Bill enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing. He had a green thumb and always looked forward to tending to his garden during the summer. He was a tireless worker and shared the fruits of his labor with family and friends. In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his siblings: Roy Gregory, June Conley, Cleo Shuler, and Rubena Houston. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Smith Gregory, and numerous nephews and nieces.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roy Lowe officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ralph Bell, Chris Bell, Darrell Gravitt, James Tallent, Phil Houston, and Greg Houston.
