Mrs. Shirley Mae Evitt Houston, 84, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, October 1, 2025. Mrs. Houston was born January 25, 1941, in Jackson, Co. NC to the late Mack Evitt and Delphia Guilliams Evitt.
Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She loved gardening, working in flowers, fishing, sewing, cooking, feeding and watching birds. Christmas was her favorite Holiday, and she loved coconut cakes and eating shrimp.
Shirley was a member of Clayton First Assembly of God Church in Clayton, GA where she played the piano. She loved to encourage people and was a faithful prayer warrior.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Clinton Houston of the home; a son, Jeff Houston (Ann) of Tiger, GA; a daughter, Linda Turner of Clayton, Ga; five grandchildren, Ashley Swann (John), Ryan Turner (Shannon), Ben Houston, Megan Fonclara (Daniel), and Jacob Houston; and three great-grandchildren, Little John Swann, Emmee Mae Swann, and Brantley Wade Swann; and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, October 6, 2025, at Clayton First Assembly of God with the Rev. Jeff Houston and Rev. Charles Reese officiating. Burial will follow at the Evitt Cemetery in Cashiers, NC. The family will receive friends from 5-7 P.M. Sunday evening at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Jacob Houston, Ryan Turner, Thad Evitt, John Swann, Daniel Fonclara, and Ricardo Gato.
