Steven Allen Matthews

Steve Allen Matthews, 70, passed away on September 19, 2026. Born on September 13, 1956, he was the son of the late Gilford Matthews and Betty Morgan Matthews Vaughn.

Steve lived a life full of heart, humor, and devotion. He was a Christian man who loved Jesus deeply and carried his faith with quiet strength. He found joy in the simple things, fishing, spending time in the mountains, cheering for anything related to Duke sports, and soaking in good music and dancing. He was also a proud fan of NASCAR racing, never missing a race.

Steve is survived by his son, Jacob Allen Matthews; two daughters, Kara Matthews McGhee (Patrick) and Kristan Matthews Strickland; and four sisters, Rebecca, Karen, Denise, and Lori. He also leaves behind three cherished grandchildren: Trinity McGhee, Brody McGhee, and Haylee Strickland.

Along with his parents, Steve is preceded in death by his brother, Randy Matthews.

A visitation will be held at Cornerstone Funeral Home on Friday, September 25, 2026, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.
