Thomas R. Hunt, 96, of Franklin, NC passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2016. Born in Clemson, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Thomas Robert and Effie Nealy Hunt. He was married to Edna Nix Hunt who preceded him in death September 12, 2013.
Mr. Hunt was a World War II veteran, serving in the U. S. Army in France and participating in D‑Day operations. He was a Purple Heart recipient and proudly represented Macon County at the opening of the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC. He was a maintenance engineer in Palm Beach, Florida from 1950 until 1970 and worked at Wilson Electric in Highlands from 1975 until 1992. He loved gardening and he was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Mr. Hunt is survived by his children Thomas N. Hunt (Karen B.) of Apex, NC, Robert H. Hunt (Sharon) of Franklin, NC, Geneva Vaughn (Glandon) of Highlands, NC and Morris Nix (Donna) of Clayton, GA; a grandchild, Noel Velez of Raleigh, NC; step‑grandchildren, Denver Vaughn, Misty Holland, Kevin Nix and Shannon Carter and five great‑step‑grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Carolyn Hunt; a grandson, Bryan Hunt; a sister, Mary Andrews; a brother, James Neely Hunt.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Bryant‑Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Lowe officiating. Burial will follow in Wright Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 ‑ 2:00 pm, prior to the service, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Wright Cemetery Fund, c/o Jane Morgan, PO Box 146, Otto, NC 28763.
