Vergia Rae Russell Thomas

Franklin, NC - Vergia Rae Russell Thomas of Franklin, NC passed away Saturday, October 31, 2009. Born February 4, 1936 in Glenville, NC, she was the daughter of the late Jeff and Lucille Moore Russell. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Iva Lea Russell, Ella Mae Houston, Glana Holden, Kathleen Bumgarner; one brother, Kenneth Russell and one grandson, Jeremy Keener. She was a member of Wesleyan Methodist Church in Glenville, NC. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, reading and gardening.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Marion Thomas Jr.; three daughters, Margaret Daniel and husband Gerald of Albany, GA, Marlene Palmer and husband Mark of Woodruff, SC, Marcella Keener and husband Steve of Franklin, NC; one brother JW Russell and wife Anne of White Oak, NC; five grandchildren, Crystal Daniel, Christina Daniel Willis and husband, Adam, Katrin Keener, Jaric Keener, and Morgan Palmer; one brother-in-law, Lawton Houston of Franklin, NC; one sister-in-law, Ruth Russell of Chattanooga, TN.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 3 at 4:00 PM in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with the Rev. Allen Waters and Dr. Allan Houston officiating. Burial will be held at Black Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dearl Prince, Lawton Houston, Jamie Carpenter, Dwain Holden, Bunk Russell and Ray Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be Jaric Keener, Mark Palmer, Harry Bowen, Scott Keener, Shawn Keener, Steve Keener, Gerald Daniel and Mark McGaha.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 3 from 2:30 till 4:00 PM, prior to the service at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home.
