Virgie Mae (Mcmahan) Guyer

Mrs. Virgie Mae McMahan Guyer, 89, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025.

Mrs. Guyer was born August 16, 1935, in Jackson County, NC to the late George McMahan and Zilla Buchanan McMahan.

Virgie worked and retired from Buster Brown Textiles. She enjoyed sewing for work and fun. She loved gardening - flowers for their beauty and vegetables for feeding her family. She loved family dinners and preparing her harvest for everyone to enjoy. She also enjoyed time spent farming with her husband, Leonard, raising tobacco and cattle, and many hours on the tractor. She was a member of Greens Creek Baptist Church in Jackson County.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Mr. Leonard Guyer of the home; a sister, Janice Lyerly of Franklin, NC; a brother, Ted McMahan of Clinton, TN; and several nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Virgie was preceded in death by her sister, Georgie McMahan Austin, and two brothers, RL McMahan and Benny McMahan.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, January 17, 2025, at Iotla Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Reeves and Rev. Davis Hooper officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 12:30-1:30 PM prior to the service at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home.

Virgie's kindness, simple ways and sweet spirit will be missed but never forgotten.
