Highlands, NC- William Henry "Bill" Aaron, Jr., 78, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015. Mr. Aaron was born June 2, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan to the late William Henry Aaron and Evelyn Arnold Aaron. Bill worked in radio for most of his career before coming to Highlands with his wife Nancy to open Southern Hands, an upscale craft store that was highly regarded for 20 years. He was a member of the Highlands Rotary Club, a Board member on the Chamber of Commerce and served on the Bascom Arts Center Board. Bill was also an active member of the Players Club of Detroit, and was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Incarnation. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa, and would later become National President of that fraternity. Bill enjoyed animals, the mountains and a good story, was a skilled woodworker and cook, and he loved volunteering at HealthTracks and with the Highlands Cashiers Chamber Music Festival.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Gould Aaron of the home; a daughter, Lyn Aaron Stille of Canton, Ga; two sons, Bill Aaron (Marti) and Ben Aaron (Rebecca) of Marietta, Ga; four grandchildren, Ruth Aaron, Will Aaron, Grayson Stille, and Emma Aaron; sister in law, Nola Miller (Richard) of Winston Salem, NC; and a nephew, Ben Miller of Dallas, TX.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation with the Rev. Bruce Walker and Rev. Howard L'Enfant officiating. The family will have a reception following the service at the church. A private Graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at the Horse Cove Cemetery.
