William "Howard" Johnson

William "Howard" Johnson, 94, of Franklin, NC, passed away March 6, 2025. He was born October 2, 1930, in Macon County to the late Luther Joel Johnson and Mary Sanders Johnson. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva A. Johnson, who passed away May 1, 2022.

Mr. Johnson was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church; he had worked for the Franklin Press and Franklin Frozen Foods; he was also proud of being a licensed electrician and he did carpenter work.  Mr. Johnson was a US Navy Veteran, serving during the Korean War.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW, serving as the Commander of the Post three times; All state commander, honor post twice; past master of Masonic Lodge; past high priest of Royal Arch, Waynesville York Rites; and American Legion DAV.

He is survived by  three sons, Bill Johnson (Sherri) of Franklin, NC; Tommy Johnson (Marie) of Salisbury, NC and Eddie Johnson of Franklin, NC; grandchildren, Adam Johnson (Briana), Jennifer Reavis (Colton), Taylor Johnson, Kasey Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, Logan Johnson (Macey), Amber Bennett, Cheyenne Bennett and Haley Hamilton; great-grandchildren, Ryan Johnson, Race Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Sammy Johnson,  Brea Harris, Easton Harris, Embree Harris, Tytus Bennett and Harlow Galloway, Willow Schminky, Mason Weaver, Alexander Head, Shawn Head, and Daniel Head.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by sisters, Beulah Buchanan and Birdell Clouse.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Ridgecrest Baptist Church, with Rev. Guy Duvall, Rev. Tommy Fouts and Rev. Steve Reeves officiating.  Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery with full military honors.  The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 11, 2025, from 6:00 till 8:00 pm at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home.
