Willie Mae (Kirkland) Hovis

Mrs. Willie Mae Kirkland Hovis, 86, passed away Friday, May 31, 2024. Willie Mae was born in Macon, Co. NC on November 29, 1937, to the late Fred Kirkland and Lucinda Jenkins Kirkland.

She was married to the late Raymond Hovis who passed away in 1994. She worked for Belmont Manufacturing for many years before retirement. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved a good card game (Poker) and video games (Super Mario) with her family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, fishing, and being outdoors.

Survivors include her son, Leon Hovis, two sisters, Louise Hurst and Dorothy Reddish; and a brother, Wiley L. Kirkland; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Hovis was preceded in death by a daughter, Lucinda Childers; six sisters, Ethel Walker, Cordelia Russell, Annie Bell Smith, Ann Lois Shephard, Nancy Russell, Rosalee Russell, two brothers, Floyd Kirkland and Leroy Kirkland.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 5, 2024, in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Farmer officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be private following the service at Tellico Baptist Church Cemetery.
