In later years, Winston and Barbara divided their time between homes in Sarasota, Florida and Highlands, North Carolina. Winston was a member of the Highland Falls Country Club, where he was an enthusiastic bridge, golf, and croquet player. In Sarasota, Winston loved nothing more than spending time on the water and maintaining his beautiful tropical garden.
