Zeb Vance Guffie, Sr

Franklin, NC - Zeb Vance Guffie, Sr., 103, went Home Sunday, September 14 2014. Born in Macon County, December 13, 1910, he was the son of Ed Napoleon and Lily Buchanan Guffey.Zeb was pre deceased by his parents; his wife, Edna Angel Guffie; five brothers, Fred, Norman, John, Edgar, and James; seven sisters, Hattie, Lola, Annie, Nannie, Fannie, Irene and Pauline; son in law, Glenn Farmer; grandson, David Bryan Farmer, and great granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Hall.

He is survived by two sons, Zeb Guffie, Jr. and wife Laura Belle of Franklin, Jim Guffie and wife Beverly of Montgomery City, MO, and one daughter, Virginia (Jean) Farmer of Franklin. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren; one sister, Lillian Russo of Secaucus, NJ, and two sisters in law, Dorothy (Dot) Guffey of Franklin and Peggy Angel of Rock Hill, SC. Many, many nieces and nephews also survive.
Zeb was Senior Deacon at Longview Baptist Church; served as church treasurer for many years, and held other positions as well. He had a varied life, working in lumber; serving in the CCC camps, and was employed many years by Reeves Hardware, Franklin. Zeb and Edna owned and operated Franklin Seed Store from 1958 until 1971. In the sixties he built greenhouses, growing and selling plants, all locally. They both officially retired in 1985, but continued selling daylilies from the fields; produce and berries from their garden, and woodwork from his small shop and silk flower arrangements.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 17, 2014 from 6:00 8:00 pm at Bryant Grant Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Bryant Grant Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Rick Farmer, Joel Farmer, Justin Farmer, James Guffie, Jerry Guffie, Jimmy Hall and Nathan Brown. Rev. Tom Nahlen and family members will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will be at Zeb's home on Jim Mann Road.
