Charles Baldwin Obituary

Charles Donald Baldwin, 86, passed away on April 3, 2023 at Eckerd Living Center after a period of declining health.  Charles was born in Macon County on September 20, 1936 to the late Donald J. Baldwin and Maude Welch Baldwin.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Betty Lou Baldwin.

He graduated from Franklin High School where he played the tuba in the marching band.  After high school, he joined the US Marine Corps serving from 1954 to 1957.  He was a graduate of Georgia State University.  He worked at Square D in Atlanta, GA, before returing to Franklin where he worked for many years for the North Carolina Employment Security Commission in Bryson City, Cherokee and Franklin.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Franklin.

Charles had a quiet undemanding personality, always appreciative of any small kindness shown to him.  He enjoyed the beauty of nature, the stillness and quiet of the forest, feeding the birds and squirrels, and felt we should never waste anything.

Charles is survived by his sisters, Nell Baldwin Hubbell (Clarence) and Thelma Baldwin Crawford (the late R. L. Crawford of Sylva, along with nieces Sharon Davis (Carl) of Sylva; Elizabeth Medford (Mitchell) of Austin, TX, Rebecca Barr (Bill), Linda Crawford Robinson (John); and a nephew, Bob Crawford (Kari) of Franklin.

No services are planned.

Donations may be made to the Burningtown Baptist Church Cemetery, PO Box 2193, Franklin, NC  28744.
