Debra Mock passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018 at the Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln, Mass after a long battle with cancer. She was 60 years old.
She was born Debra Ann Topping in Boston Massachusetts on February 23, 1958, the daughter of Kenneth and Sandra Topping.
In 1973 Debra's parents moved the family from Boston to Florida. In 1974 Debra met and married Roland Mock Jr., a Floridian, a hardworking builder of homes. Roland's work opportunities took him and his new wife to Texas, Montana, back to Florida and eventually to North Carolina. Together they had two children. First, a boy, Roland Mock III in 1976, and then a girl, Angie Mock in 1978.
Debra became a member of the First Baptist Church where she enjoyed working with youth groups and cooking meals for those attending bible study on Wednesdays. Debra's faith helped sustain her through life's challenges. In 1995 Debra and her husband separated. Debra returned to Boston to be with her mother and grandmother.
In Boston Debra worked as a General Manager in the fast food industry. She established a reputation of being a fair and balanced manager, guiding the younger employees through their struggles to become responsible young adults in the public service industry. She earned great respect and never had a shortage of people wanting to work for her.
Debra developed the hobby of coloring and created many beautiful multicolored drawings, giving them as gifts to friends and family. She also enjoyed quilting and an occasional trip to the casino – the buffalos and wicked winning were her favorite slots.
Debra's priority was her two children whom she loved with all her heart. She said “they give my life meaning”. A loving mother and sister, Debra will be remembered for her contagious laugh and compassionate love for those less fortunate. Her trust in God's plan and the loving support she received from family and friends helped her to live the last years of her life to the fullest.
Debra is survived by her daughter, Angie Whiteside and her husband Lewis, of Brevard, NC; a son, Roland Mock III and his wife Cyndi, of Franklin, NC as well a 4 grandchildren: Paige Whiteside, Kaitlin Hall, Shanya Whiteside, Nathaniel Mock, and one great granddaughter, Nylah Fowler. Debra is also survived by two younger brothers Kenneth and Robert Topping, her Aunt Carol Nichols, her Aunt Barbara Adams, her Uncle Eddie Topping as well as many cousins who loved her dearly.
