Dr. Loye Thomas Whidden Obituary

It is with eternal hope and joy we announce the transition of Pastor Tom, Dr. Loye Thomas Whidden, Jr., from the cares of this life to life eternal!

Against all odds, this boy, born in Parrish, Florida, rose to use the many gifts and talents bestowed to him by the Lord God Almighty to accomplish exceedingly, abundantly beyond all he could think or imagine, to bring God glory throughout his life.

Pastor Tom often said he was used by God — not because he was the most qualified — but because he was available and obedient to initiate the seemingly impossible tasks God asked him to do and then God was faithful to see them through to completion.

It would stand to reason, that in the process of listening to God and loving people for more than 60 years, Pastor Tom changed the community and world around him.

His ministry began in a day and age where there was no global internet.  Face-to-face interaction was the norm.  Taking time to spend time with others was Pastor Tom’s daily choice; he didn't get angry when the plans of his day were interrupted by other’s life emergencies.

He used those emergencies to lay hands on the sick and pray a prayer of faith; to listen to the brokenhearted; to comfort those who mourned with words from heaven and to dream the dreams of others with words of encouragement.

Only now, that he is seated at the right hand of Jesus, will he discover the many lives that were eternally impacted by the intent of his actions. The smooth stone of his life that skipped across the water of our lives initiated ripples that will continue until life on earth is no more.

His life continues through the many lives of those he loved. The lives he loved closest to him were his wife of 67 years, Betty. His daughter, Joy. His grandson, Edik. His brother, Ken and his faithful companion, LuBlu. To her, there was no better ear-rubber in the whole, wide-world and she misses him dearly.

Pastor Tom, Founding Pastor of First Assembly, Concord — now known as Multiply Church — prayed for wisdom and favor everyday. God answered his prayer. He left this world a better place than he found it.

Continuing his tradition of helping others around the world and at home, Pastor Tom has asked that memorials be made to:  Kingdom Builders at Multiply Church, Concord, NC.

Please join his family as the community celebrates his life well-lived on Sunday, April 11, 2021, at 4 PM in the Whidden Auditorium of Multiply Church in Concord, NC. The family is wearing Pastor Tom’s favorite color — blue.  The Celebration will also be live streamed for those who cannot attend. Please go to the church's Facebook page or website for the "live" link.
