Elaine Marlene (Westphal) Reynolds

Elaine Westphal Reynolds was a caring wife, step-mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a patient and kind-hearted person, witty, and a joy to know. She passed away peacefully on January 25, 2023, at age 89.

The youngest of seven siblings, she was born December 22, 1933, in Zimmerman, Minnesota, to the late Edward and Caroline Leider Westphal. She was married to the late William Lee Reynolds, of Highlands NC.

Elaine had the heart of a servant and spent much of her free time helping others. She was an active member of Highlands United Methodist Church, where she sang choir and helped with the kitchen, meals, and food pantry. She was also a long-time volunteer at the Highlands-Cashiers Hospital where she helped run the gift shop. She participated in several mission trips, lending her heart and hands to others.

She was always working with her hands. A talented seamstress, she served many of the local shops as well as individuals with tailoring, and enjoyed sewing and making crafts for the local arts and crafts shows.

She loved the beauty of her surroundings, getting her hands dirty, plants, and animals. She loved to read. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She always had a smile on her face, ready to listen, help, give. She was a mother-figure to many.

She is survived by Susan Coffeen (Richard) of Long Creek, SC, Debra Coffeen of Highlands, NC, Wellington Coffeen of Freeport, FL, Charles Reynolds (Christine) of Franklin, NC, Marni Reynolds of Highlands, NC, William Reynolds of Atlanta, GA, and Andrew (Laurie) Reynolds of Atlanta, GA, and several grandchildren.

A memorial will be held Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Highlands-United Methodist Church. The family will greet friends after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Highlands-United Methodist Church, 315 Main Street, Highlands, NC 28741.
