Eloise (Chastain) Rogers

Eloise Chastain Rogers, 93, of Satolah, Georgia passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina. 

Eloise was known for a smile that lit up every room, a personality that welcomed and fed everyone as her own, and a chocolate cake that was the highlight of many celebrations throughout the family and community. 

A native of Macon County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Hattie Miller Chastain. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Cleon Rogers; precious great-granddaughter, Rachel Hope Abell; six sisters, Cora Lee Nelson, Minnie Bell Cabe Swartz, Willie Parker, Ruth Owens, Faye Cabe, and Alice Marsengill; and one brother Luke Chastain. Eloise worked for many years as a seamstress in Walhalla, South Carolina, but she spent most of her years as a housekeeper for many families in Highlands, North Carolina and taking care of her family. She was a proud member of Blue Valley Baptist Church and loved singing gospel hymns with other locals in the community. 

Eloise was a devout Christian and leaves a strong legacy of love to all who knew her, but especially her family. She is survived by one son, Tommy Rogers (Debi) of Satolah, GA; one daughter, Debra Eloise Rogers Fretwell (Grover “Bugs”) of Walhalla, SC; seven grandchildren, Ami Rogers Helton of Lenoir City, TN, Macy Fretwell Abell (Aaron) of Grayson, GA; Jimmy Petrone (Jessica) of Highlands, NC, Benjamin Rogers (Magestic) of Sylva, NC, Vince Petrone (Jackie) of Highlands, NC, Jessica Fretwell Jenkins (Jimmy) of Satolah, GA, and Jeremiah Rogers (Sara) of Glenville, NC; fifteen great-grandchildren; Josie Keener, Bonnie Keener, Scarlett Helton, Cooper Helton, Madelyn Abell, Hudson Abell, Bri Jenkins, Karmen Jenkins, Logan Petrone, Brooklynn Petrone, Tristan Petrone, Luca Rogers, Piper Rogers, Nathan Petrone, and Chandler Rogers; a daughter in love, Donna Rogers of Satolah, Ga; two brothers, David “Buck” Chastain (Shelby) of Belton, SC and Tom Chastain (Sharon) of Otto, North Carolina; a host of nieces and nephews. 

A funeral service will be held 2:00pm Monday, August 15, 2022 at the Blue Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Oliver Rice officiating. Burial will follow at the Macedonia Church Cemetery. A visitation will be from 12:30pm-2:00pm prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Russ Chastain, Ben Rogers, Jeremiah Rogers, Mack Chastain, Roy Chastain, and Clint Owens; honorary pallbearers are Chub Chastain, Jimmy Petrone, John Chastain and Vince Petrone.
