Franklin, NC - Frank Coleman Myatt, Sr., April 17th, 1925January 1st, 2015. Gentleman, fisherman, businessman, entrepreneur, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, companion and friend to many. From Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, FL and Franklin, NC, Mr. Myatt passed away on January 1st, 2015.
Born on Easter Sunday April 17th, 1925 in Sharon, CT, Mr. Myatt was the son of the late Alice Lord. Mr. Myatt spent his early years in Miami, FL and attended Miami High School. At an early age, Mr. Myatt showed signs of entrepreneurship when he went to the 1939 Worlds Fair in New York City after winning a contest delivering newspapers. As a young man, Mr. Myatt bought his first fishing boat and started a charter business out of Miami, operating charters to Cuba, the Florida Keys and The Bahamas. Some of his famous passengers included Ernest Hemingway, who was looking for the picture of the marlin for The Old Man and the Sea, Debbie Reynolds, Eddie Fisher and many more.
Mr. Myatt eventually left Miami along with his mother, Alice Lord, and relocated to Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, FL. There he would begin a lifetime of achievements in real estate, building, planning, designing and development for which the city has recognized him for his many contributions. From hotel buildings, apartment buildings, shopping centers, bowling and roller skating centers, rental car agencies, and fishing piers, Mr. Myatt endeavored for perfection in every project he undertook. It was through his vision that he was able to provide hundreds of people with employment, and he was a great mentor to many people who went on to lead very successful lives. He was a gentleman who did not require much, but offered much to others. Business and adventure ran deep in his veins and heart.
In 1953, he and his former wife, Ethel, had a son, Frank Coleman Myatt Jr., and this, according to Mr. Myatt, was his lifes greatest achievement. He and Frank Jr. continued to build and improve on his accomplishments over the years, as well as create new ones together. In his later years, Mr. Myatt relocated to Franklin, NC to be near his son and his companion of 26 years, Mary Givvines Ordway. Never relinquishing, he continued to participate in the daily operations of all of his businesses.
Mr. Myatt was extremely proud of his five grandchildren, and two great granddaughters. He always bragged about their accomplishments to anyone who would listen, and he loved them dearly. Another of Mr. Myatts great pleasures in life were his dogs- Hank an English sheepdog (deceased), Avery a Border collie (deceased), and Spike a Border collie.
Mr. Myatt was a true believer in God and was non-denominational by faith. He led a life of righteousness and fairness with love for all people and things. For those of us who have been fortunate enough to know Frank Myatt Sr., our last words to him will be We are with you! in answer to his constantly asked question Are you with me?
