Jerry Vernon Henderson, 86 of Franklin passed away Wednesday November 9, 2022. He was born July 17, 1936, in Macon County to the late Fritz J. Henderson and Charlotte Ledbetter Henderson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Wilkie Henderson, brothers, FJ Henderson and Louie W. Henderson, sisters, Helen Simmons and Catherine Henderson. He was a member of Union United Methodist Church. Vernon worked as a cable splicer; in his earlier years he worked for various car assembly plants, ran heavy equipment, and helped tunnel out Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado, he as well did tunnel work for I-40 across the Tennessee/NC line. He enjoyed gardening and raising cattle on the family home place.
Vernon is survived by his sons, Thomas Henderson (Audrey) of Otto, and Jerry Henderson (Sherry) of Franklin; a sister, Mary Jo Henderson of North Wilkesboro; six grandchildren, Thomas Henderson, Rebecca Cope (Philip), Noah Henderson, April Innis (Joe), Kristin Henderson (Nate) and Angela Henderson; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm Monday November 14, 2022, at Union United Methodist Church with the Rev. Vic Green and Rev. Janet Green officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00pm-1:00pm prior to the service. Burial will follow at Union United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorials be made to Union United Methodist Church Cemetery.
