Margaret (Peggy) Raphael Foss

Margaret Raphael Foss of Roanoke, Va., died on Wednesday, March 6, 2019.

She is survived by her son, John Raphael, and grandson, Brandon Raphael, of Rockledge, Fla. Also surviving Margaret are her step-daughter, Victoria Armentrout and her husband, Edmund Armentrout; grandson, Connellee Armentrout and his wife, Kelly; grandson, Cabot Armentrout and his wife, Laura; and a large circle of loving extended family and friends in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee.

Margaret (known as Peggy to much of her family and to her friends from her earlier years) was a woman of great faith and served as an Elder in the Presbyterian Church. She was an active member of the congregations of her church in Highlands, N.C., and of Second Presbyterian Church in Roanoke.

Margaret loved to travel, having visited every continent, some multiple times. She treasured her time with her family and friends and delighted in sharing her needlework skills with others. With help from friends at Second Presbyterian Church, Margaret started a program to knit hats for the students at Highland Park School.

Margaret’s family is grateful to all the staff at Our Lady of the Valley and Good Samaritan Hospice who cherished her and helped care for her.

A memorial graveside service will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Highlands Memorial Park. The family will greet friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Second Presbyterian Church.
