Max Ledbetter, 84, of Franklin, NC passed away, Sunday, March 1, 2020. He was born September 4, 1935 in Macon County, NC to the late Lawrence Ledbetter and Pearl (Frazier) Ledbetter. He was married to the late Audrey Virginia Gibson Ledbetter. Max owned and operated City Tire for many years until his retirement; He was a driver of a race car in NASCAR back in the old days at the Asheville Motor Speedway. He also was a Mason.
Survivors include his son, Stephen Ledbetter and wife Diana “Tater”; a granddaughter, Sara “Sara Beth” Ledbetter; 2 brothers, Larry Ledbetter and Charles “Buck” Ledbetter and wife, (Margaret); 2 sisters, Jane Brookshire and Kathy Hurst (Andy); 2 brother-in-laws, Dolen Bates and Mac Stanfield; 2 sister-in-laws, Edna Earl Gibson and Margaret Gibson; his beloved dog, “Missy”; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents; Max was preceded in death by a son, Robert Max Ledbetter; sister, Geneva Stanfield; brother-in-laws, LT Gibson, Dan Gibson, Robbie Gibson, and Harold Brookshire; sister-in-laws, Mavis “Babe” Bates and Trellis Ledbetter; nephews, Doug Brookshire and Larry “Bud” Ledbetter, Jr.
A funeral service will be held Friday, March 6, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with the Rev. David Crunkleton officiating. Burial will follow in the Carson Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Stanfield, Duke Buchanan, Dale Brookshire, David Brookshire, Rocky French and Kent Gibson. The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
