Patricia Lee (Cope) Roane

Patricia Lee Cope Roane, 87, of Franklin, NC, died October 22, 2023.

She was born in the Burningtown community of Macon County on April 28, 1936 and grew up in Nantahala. As a toddler, she survived polio. Known to those she grew up with as Patsy, she later answered to Pat, Mama, and then Nana.

Pat was the daughter of Grady and Cleo Douthit Cope. In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Halen Wilford Roane and her sister Lucy Cope Pipes. Pat is survived by daughters Sherry Lea Roane (Ken) of Asheville and Carol Ann Roane Childress (Jeff) of Charlotte.; grandchildren Nathan Roane Ellis, Kimzey Lea Ellis, Taylor LeaAnn Childress Pearsall, Haley Blair Childress and Kylie Roane Childress; Great-grandchildren Nora Jean Ellis, James Roane Ellis, Roanen Michael Pearsall and Warren Robert Pearsall; sister Libby Cope Arndt and brother Bill Cope; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pat had an amazing green thumb and passed on her love of gardening to her daughters. She enjoyed many handicrafts including sewing, knitting, crochet, and quilting. She was also an avid reader and a great cook. At various times in her life she volunteered with Friends of the Library, Macon County Organic Gardeners, and in several positions at her church.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 11th, at 11am at Maidens Chapel Methodist Church, where Pat was a member. Stephanie Thompson will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 am till 11:00 am prior to the service.  Burial will follow at the Maidens Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Nathan Ellis, Michael Hollifield, Ken Miller, Kip Otterness, Alan Ellis and Mike Pearsall. Honorary pallbearers will be Alan Pipes and Jeff Childress.
