Rev. Stanley "Stan" Tate Obituary

On Sunday, January 14, 2024, at 2:15 p.m., the Reverend Stanley Ray “Stan” Tate of Wise, Virginia left this life to be with his Heavenly Father and his beloved wife, Gloria Diana Pickens Tate.

Born on April 27, 1942, he was the son of the late Willie Ray Tate and Mary Magdeline “Maggie” Tate Hubbard, as well as the late Wayne Kelly Clark and Eunice Lyons Clark, all of Appalachia, Va. In addition, he was preceded in death by one sister, Lena Bowman of Wallingford CT., his only brother, Nathaniel “Cricket” Tate of Wallingford CT., one nephew, Sonny Fannon of Benton Harbor MI., and his only, great-great grandchild, Koa Zane Highhouse of Greenville, SC.

He is survived by his wife of more than 20 years, Mary Anne Tate; two daughters, Jill Tate Hughes (Randy) of Franklin, N.C. and Jennifer Tate Hill (David) of Tabernash, Colo.; eight grandchildren:  Grant Marchman (Angie) of Pickens, S.C.; Lindsay Highhouse of Greenville, S.C.; Dr. Ryan Marchman of Niwot, Colo.; Cooper Greenwood of Clayton, Ga.; Logan Hill (fiancé Joey Kurbanov) of Nashville, Tenn.; Taylor Hill (Daniel Fryer) of Nashville, Tenn.; Mackinley Hill of New York, N.Y.; and Chase Hill (Claire DeLozier Hill) of New York, N.Y.; two sisters, Reva Tate of Central, S.C. and Mary Daigle (Pierre) of Corbin, Ky.; five great grandchildren; 20 nieces and nephews; 18 great nieces and nephews; one great-great nephew; and an untold number of extended family and friends who have become family. Stan was not only a role model and father to his own children, but also a father figure for many of his extended family and so many others whose lives he touched.

Stan dedicated his life to helping and healing, first through his long and respected tenure in the medical field and later through his unshakable faith and belief in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was dedicated to not only healing bodies, but also to healing souls, leading family, friends and strangers to the Lord.  He will be greatly missed here on earth.

A funeral ceremony will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the Newman Chapel Baptist Church, 60 Mulberry Rd., Otto, NC 28763, with the Rev.
