Dear Romney, much delayed but just found the obituary this evening. I am so very sorry for your loss. This week I was going through boxes that have been sitting in my closet since my retirement and move almost 6 years ago. I found a lovely note from you shortly after the Colonel’s liver transplant. I was the transplant social worker at Emory and had just started work there. Col. Bathurst’s was my ‘first’ transplant. I always enjoyed our contacts during my time there. As the years have gone by I have thought of you often and hoped all was going well. I still visit in Cashiers occ with friends on Big Ridge. In the intervening years i moved to San Francisco with the liver transplant program at UCSF & retired in 2011. Tom Boyer who left Emory and became Director of Liver Institute in Tucson and I became close after he was widowed. Sadly he was diagnosed with cancer in 2016 and I spent the past year+ in Tucson supporting him through his battle. He died on Jan 11th. I know Tom had the utmost respect and caring for the two of you. Tom was such a wonderful man and dedicated physician. He was still working at time of diagnosis and had been planning to retire so we could enjoy more time together. I miss him so very much. I am back at home now in NY with his dog Addie taking one day and one foot in front of the other. It is difficult.
I hope you are doing well Romney. My thoughts are with you.

Brumly, this is the most beautifully written account of anyone's life I have ever read. You shared aspects of Bill's life that I had not known before.

Such wonderful memories of our time together with you to the Chestnuthill my mother was there! He was so much fun to be with him. A delight at the dinner table or talking about dog training, etc.

Mother (shirley), George and Hugh will be at the memorial service. I'm afraid I have an unattractive chest cold and care not to share it with the entire congregation.

Definitely there in spirit. I know it will be beautiful. will be thinking of him smiling down on us loving all of his friends from on high.

Xx Mary Palmer

Dearest Romney, Dana and Bill,
We are so sad to read of the passing of the Colonel Bill. He was a truely kind hearted gentleman. I always enjoyed his company and engaging conversations. Both Dana and Bill have been missed in recent years as we go way back to the early Delray years. Romney, please, know how Fond we are of you and the family and feel the loss of the Colonel deeply. We too, lost our mother this past week and have also been battling the fierce weather conditions in 'attempting' to execute the identical situation you undoubtedly have encountered in Cashiers. As everyone has been snowed in, the week has been challenging for us all. I would have been there for your services had it been in the realm of a possibility. We will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers. Love, Arthur Paoletti, Meg, family and restaurant staff.

Dear Romney,
My deep felt sympathy to you and your family.

Can we reach out our hand into the darkness, believing there is ONE there to sustain us, to help us through this terrible time? There is a saying that for every halting step we take toward God, God walks a thousand miles in blazing light to come to us. Teri
