William Morris Obituary

William (Bill) Taliaferro Morris

Bill Morris passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2019. He was born on June 24, 1941 in Greenville Mississippi, then moved as child to Atlanta in 1954.  He lived his last 15 years as a full time resident in Highlands, NC. He leaves behind a loving wife, Susanne (Sanne) Morris, and two sons:  Toliver Morris and Max Morris. He will also be missed by his 5 grandchildren, 3 brothers and a sister (Woodson, Dan, Bob and Peggy).

Bill spent his early career in real estate in Georgia, where he owned and operated a successful company (William Morris Company) that focused primarily on land sales and development near Atlanta. In 1980, Bill and his wife moved the family to California where he began the next chapter of his career buying homes, repositioning assets, building new homes and developing ranches; from La Jolla all the way north up the coast to Sonoma County.

Prior to his working career, Bill attended Druid Hills High School in Atlanta, where he met his wife Sanne. The two of them were married in 1962 and remained together for over 56 years until Bill’s passing. After High School, Bill put himself through Georgia Tech on the co-op program, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and graduated with an industrial engineering degree. In 1967 Bill joined the Air Force as a first lieutenant, where his training took him and his wife to California for the first time, exposing them to life on the West Coast.

Prior to his death, Bill requested that there be an intimate family service on his behalf. His sons flew back from California at the very end of his life, and though not conscious, he waited for them to be at his bedside with Sanne, before he passed peacefully within 15 minutes of their arrival.  His immediate family came together to remember him in a small, intimate ceremony, and celebrated his life on Friday, June 21st 2019.
