Obituary

William Milo Cabe, Jr., 87, passed away Monday, September 18, 2023. Junior was born December 15, 1935, in Macon County, NC to the late Milo Cabe and Margie Buchanan Cabe. He was married to the late Hazel Arlene Cabe who preceded him in 2019.

  Junior was a US Army Veteran. He worked for Nantahala Power Company (Duke Energy) as a lineman, and later as a meter reader, and retired after many years of service.  Junior was a faithful member of Dryman's Chapel Church. He was an avid hunter and had endless stories to tell from all the time he and his buddies spent in the woods. He enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, listening to bluegrass music, and watching football, baseball, softball, and basketball.  He was a huge Franklin Panthers fan! Junior loved and was loved by everyone who knew him. 

Survivors include his daughter, Lara Turner (Kevin) of Clyde, NC; granddaughters, Sarah Grace Turner and Mary Beth Turner; sister, Evelyn Shelnut of Spartanburg, SC; sister-in-law, Rowena Ashe (Paul) of Brevard, NC; Nieces, Debbie Martin and Pam Ranson; nephews, Doug and Donnie Ashworth and Joe Hilliard, and their families; and special friends and caregivers, Karen Tallent, Gail Stiwinter, and Laura Scruggs. 

A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Dryman's Chapel Church with the Rev. Terry Moffitt and Rev. Don Moffitt officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00PM prior to the service at the church. A military graveside will follow the service in the Wright Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jim Barrett, Bill Harkins, Mike Bell, Bruce Fox, David Nix (Rooster), and Glenn Holland. Honorary pallbearers will be George Williamson, Roy McClure, Willard Barrett, Gerald Phillips, Laura Scruggs, Cindy Dowdle, Karen Tallent, and Gail Stiwinter. 

  Memorials can be made to Dryman's Chapel or to Wright Cemetery C/O Leeann Muse, 216 Tom McDowell Rd. Otto, NC 28763.
