David, Marti and family,

Just want y’all to know we are thinking about you. Bill lived a long and full life.

I’m going to miss his cigars and crab legs, but he isn’t suffering. Sis, please say a prayer for him from the Greenville NC Norwood’s. We love you, Geoffrey

Dear Family,

I am so sorry that I will not be able to attend the funeral service for Uncle Judd. I wanted to be there so badly, but prior engagements that could not be re-scheduled have put a halt on our traveling plans to come to Otto, NC. I want you all to know that I will be there in spirit and my prayers are with you all.

I’ll never forget my nickname “Sue Ella”… where in the world he ever came up with that one; we’ll never know. I can remember visiting once when I was a small child and we were all sitting around Grandma Dowdle’s dining room table. I was chewing “Bubbilicious – Wacky Fruit” chewing gum and he insisted he wanted a piece, because he liked the smell of it. I honestly thought he was kidding at first and remember thinking it was the funniest thing for an “old man” to want bubble gum. See, I was used to my parents chewing “Freedent”, because it didn’t stick to their dentures. I guess I associate that gum with all adults. Too funny, I know! Of course, the older I get the younger we all look these days.

My Daddy, Ray Shope, dearly loved Uncle Judd and he was always good to Daddy and I know the feeling was mutual between the two of them. Now, they are together again along with Grandma Dowdle, Uncle Jerry, Aunt Gail, Jay, Uncle Frank, and Aunt Marie. Man Oh Man… can you imagine the reunion they are having today? I can remember on one visit after Daddy had passed away, Uncle Judd took me riding in his car and we rode down
Shope Rd. He showed me where the old home place was, the old swimming hole, and told me stories about my Dad that I will never forget. That meant the world to me! He took the time to share his heart with me and memories of his childhood and Daddy’s…. those moments are “PRICELESS”.

Uncle Judd will be missed and his legacy will live on in all of us forever. All the laugher that he brought into our lives and the crazy stories he told will never be forgotten. He was an amazing, funny, and creative character; one in whom I am proud and honored to call ”my” Uncle!!

Sending my prayers with much love…

Smiles, Deana Kiser
