Avery Jack Mashburn, 83, of Franklin, NC passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2015. He was born in Macon County to the late Henry Jackson and Charlie Ruth Angel Mashburn.
Mr. Mashburn retired from the Macon County School Maintenance Department with 35 years’ service. He loved gardening, grouse hunting and raising bird dogs. He was dedicated to the service of others, giving of his time and talent to his family, neighbors and community. He was an active member of Patton United Methodist Church where he was a Trustee and served on the Building Committee.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Mashburn; three sons, Joe Mashburn (Julia) of Candler, Jackie Mashburn (Robin) and Bobby Mashburn (Felicia) all of Franklin; grandchildren, Brad Mashburn, Becky Kennedy (Hardin), Lindsay Wright (Travis), Katy Huscusson (Adam), Sara Shope (Matthew), Michael Mashburn (Patricia), Laura Mashburn, Robert Foster (Morgan) and Lindsay Foster; 10 great‑grandchildren; one sister, Betty Moffitt of Arden; two brothers, Eugene Mashburn of Dothan, AL and Wayne Mashburn of Franklin. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Francis Morrison, Edna Burnette and Susie Shires and three brothers, Joe Mashburn, Richard Mashburn and Johnny Mashburn.
A funeral service will be held Friday, November 13, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Bryant‑Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Susan German officiating. Burial will follow at Patton United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 12 ‑ 2:00 pm, prior to the service, at the funeral home.
