Jessie Caroline Owens

Jessie Caroline Picklesimer Owens, 95, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, January 8, 2017.

Mrs. Owens was born in Macon County to the late John Wesley and Gertie Rogers Picklesimer. She was married to the late Rev. Harry Owens. Mrs. Jessie enjoyed gardening, canning, fishing, and her chickens. She kept a garden and chickens until she was 93. She was a true pastor’s wife and was a “Memaw” to everybody. She was also a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Jewel Wolfrey of Clayton, GA and Juanita Faught (Don) of Woodbridge VA; two sons, Ken Owens (Jane) of Clayton, GA and Harold Owens (Ruth Ann) of Tennille, GA; ten grandchildren, Carol Maggard, Roger Wolfrey(Melissa), Rusty Wolfrey (Ronda), Ronnie Owens (Debbie), Drew Buchanan (Amy), Beverly Faught, Chris Faught, Jessie Owens, Breanne Edwards, and Sidney Owens. Eighteen great-grandchildren, Brent, Ethan, Cody Maggard, Amanda, Andrea, and Anthony Wolfrey, Joshua and Kaitlyn Wolfrey, Rebekah, Timothy, Jessica, Isaac, and Victoria Owens, Abby Joseph, Michael, and Ethan Buchanan, and Connor McCarter; One great-great grandchild, C. J. Maggard;   a brother, Burt Coolidge Picklesimer; and a special sister-in-law, Dot Keener.

Mrs. Jessie was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Harry Owens; a son, Clarence Owens and baby girl Owens; siblings, Sherwood Picklesimer, Edward Picklesimer, Luke Picklesimer, Mary P. Crane, and Charlotte R. Moore; a grandchild, Marsha Owens Buchanan; and a son-in-law, Bill Wolfrey.  

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Rusty Wolfrey, Rev. Ronnie Owens, and Rev. Clinton Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Jesse Owens, Josh Wolfrey, Anthony Wolfrey, Chris Faught, Ethan Maggard, and Cody Maggard. Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Reed, Dennis Ivester, Morris Nix, Kevin Nix, and James Reed.
