Welcome to the memorial page for

Mabel Virginia (Wilson) Lord

January 9, 1928 ~ June 22, 2015 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Mabel Virginia Lord, of Glenville, North Carolina passed quietly from this earth on June 22, 2015 at 87 years.

"Virginia" was residing at Haywood Lodge and Retirement Center in Waynesville, NC at the time of her death.  She struggled with Parkinson Disease & Lewy Body Dementia for many years, which sadly took her life.

She is survived by her children Debbie Dicus, (Gary) and Dwight Lord, (Pamela).  She has five loving grandchildren, Jonathan Lord, Abby Lord, Allison Dicus Thompson, Drew Dicus and Hillary Dicus.  She was the great grandmother of Payton & Harper Lord, and Emerson & Addison Thompson.

Born in St. Augustine, Florida, January 9, 1928.  She moved to Miami with her parents and graduated from Miami Business School.  She met her husband Leonard thru a friend of her fathers and they married at the young age of 19 years old. After raising their children in Miami she and Leonard moved to Tampa, Florida to be closer to their children before permanently moving to Cashiers, NC.  Eventually they moved to Glenville, NC.

Virginia was the prototypical parent of her generation.  She always wanted her children to have more than she had as a child and adult.  She put her children’s needs and wants ahead of her own, often delaying her personal gratification to ensure that her children & eventually her grandchildren were happy.  She unselfishly worked to help pay for kid’s college expenses and to take annual trips to the mountains with the family.  She and her husband and two children vacationed in the North Carolina mountains for many years.  Eventually making the Cashiers/Glenville area their permanent home.  At this time they considered themselves North Carolinians rather than “those Floridians" who congest the highways for six months of the year.  Virginia still enjoyed working and operated Ginny Len’s fashions for many years.

Virginia possessed a very calming and quiet demeanor, but when she spoke it was with confidence and wisdom.  She and her Mother shared this trait.

She truly left this earth a better place through her example for interacting with people, her contributions to those less fortunate and the proper rearing of her children.  Like their mom her children hope they can pass these same qualities on to their children.

May God bless our Mother and that she know her life was not in vain, but for all that is good.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.

Miss you Mom, so very much.

Services will be held at Highlands Memorial Park, in Highlands, NC at 11a.m., Thursday, July 2nd, 2015.
