James Clinton May, 67, of Nantahala/Topton left us on February 2, 2016 to be at home with his Heavenly Father.
He was born November 5, 1948 to the late Clint and Rebekah Ray May. He is survived by his former wife, Deana F. May; his daughter, Alicia Thurmond (Dave) of Edmonton, KY; two sons, James Daniel May of Edmonton, KY, Clinton David May (Laura) of Jacksonville, NC; two sisters, Jennilou Mason (Ronnie) of Topton, NC, Margaret Anderson (Joe) of Franklin, NC; grandchildren, Kyly, Taylor and Tristan Thurmond; nieces, Paula A. Cabe, Marlene A. Roden, Darlene A. Epley, Penny M. Stewart, Cicely M. Cable; great niece, Kailey Stewart; great nephews, Sam Stewart and Chad Cabe; special friends, The Gang, Brenda Williams and many, many others.
JC graduated from Nantahala High School, Tri‑County Community College (Auto Machines) and Southwestern CC (Commercial Arts). He had been a Macon Co. School Bus Driver, Hilton Business salesman, State Highway employee (Macon Co.). He was a member of the Nantahala Rescue Squad & EMS. He was a former employee at Bakers, Western Forge, and Guards Mark Security Services.
JC enjoyed fishing, hiking, and making music. He was a special person who enjoyed helping others. He loved his family, friends and God.
He was a member of Briartown Baptist Church where he played in the String Instrument Group. In the 1980’s & 90’s he was bass player for Rowlands Creek Gospel Quartet.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Briartown Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Jones, Rev. S. J. Waters and Rev Mickey Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rodney Chastain, Benny Douthit, Hal Jacobs, Hoytt Owenby, Pearly Owenby and Mitchell Owenby. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Cross, Larry Dailey, Jerry Day, Tom Jones, Jeff May Jr., Sidney May, James Passmore, Rickey Trammel and Joe Williams.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 ‑ 8:00 pm at Bryant‑Grant Funeral Home and Saturday from 1 ‑ 2:00 pm, prior to the service, at Briartown Baptist Church.
