R. D. Queen, age 84, of Franklin, NC, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2016. He was born in Macon County, the son of the late Derrell and Effie Queen. He was married to Betty Compton Queen for 60 years, who died July 12, 2010. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Queen Brown, who died March 13, 1997.
Mr. Queen was owner of Macon Oil Company and was a US Army Veteran. He loved farming, mowing, NASCAR, and ballgames.
He is survived by a grandson, Jason Brown (Jody) of Franklin, NC; sisters, Ann Raby and Lou Guest both of Franklin, NC; special friends, Tommy and Eoline McCoy of Franklin, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Friday, September 30, 2016 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, with Rev. Don Moffitt and Rev. Mark Bishop officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy McCoy, Terry McCoy, Jeff Wallace, Jimmy Hall, Bo Garrison and Will Maney. Honorary pallbearers will be Issac Wallace and Jacob Wallace. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 pm, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
